(If any of the parts cannot be removed by hand, take the horn to a professional repair shop)Submerge the horn and the parts completely in water. (If any of the parts can not be removed by hand, take the horn to a professional repair shop.) Cleaning the body, mouthpiece, and slides (1) Use the bore snake to clean the slide. One at a time, run the snake through each slide and rinse it with clean water (not the soapy bath water) and place the cleaned slide on a towel to dry.Use a mouthpiece brush to clean out your mouthpiece. Rinse it and place it on a towel to dry.Get a snake to clean the horn. You can start with the leadpipe. Put the snake through the tube (from mouthpiece end to tuning slide) and you might see the gunk out of the horn. Clean other pipes one by one but do not put the snake in the valve slide legs. After snaking out all the non-valve tubes, rinse the horn thoroughly inside and out with clean and warm water. (Never use the brushes on the exterior of the horn or parts as this could harm the finish of the instrument) Cleaning the body, mouthpiece, and slides (2) & Reassembling the French horn (1) Remove your horn carefully from the bath and tip all the water sitting inside of it out. You can keep spinning the horn round 360 degrees towards the bell to make any water come out of the bell.Dry the horn. After making sure you have gotten rid of any water sitting in the valves, lay your horn on clean towel to dry. Wipe down any surface water with a clean cloth.Wait a few hours then tip your horn out again to remove any water that has settled.Grease all slides. Put a small drop of slide grease on both legs of the slide and spread it around evenly with your fingertip. Reassembling the French horn (2) Lubricate the rotors. Holding the horn upright with empty slide legs pointing up, drop one or two drops straight down into the tube, and then move the valve back and forth. Put the greased slide back to the horn. Repeat for the other two slide legs. After reassembling all the slides, lay down the horn and place a small amount of rotor oil (valve oil) around the inner spinning part of the rotor. If you have a detachable bell, use graphite from a pencil as lubricant for the threads. If you want to polish the exterior of the instrument, please use the micro-fiber cleaning cloth.Return the horn and mouthpiece to the instrument case.
