Hohner Pro Harp in D
Hohner Pro Harp in D
The Hohner Pro Harp was launched by Hohner in the late 1980s, at a time when harmonicas could often be found being played within a rock and roll band environment. Existing harmonicas at the time were deemed to be a little tame in the company of electric guitar amplifiers and acoustic drum kits so research was carried out by Hohner technicians to design a rock and roll harmonica, the Hohner Pro Harp is the result of this project. Featuring anodized black coverplates and an embossed logo, the Hohner Pro Harp is a great looking harmonica that, thanks to its thick brass reed plates, offers the player a powerful sound. The Hohner Pro Harp is a Richter MS harmonica, meaning that this instrument has very distinct characteristics. Richter harmonicas are single note instruments and can be recognized by their undivided channel openings which allow the airflow to pass over both blow and draw notes simultaneously. This permits the techniques known as bending, enabling the player to lower the pitch of certain notes and create the typical bluesy wailing sound and overblowing, which produces the missing chromatic notes. The abbreviation MS stands for Modular System, a complete concept in harmonica design from Hohner. All MS components (comb, reed plates and covers) are compatible with one another, so that parts from different models can be combined to suit the individual requirements of the players.
